STUDENT ELECTION INFORMATION 2020-2021

We have decided to run the student council and class officer elections online this year!

Please read the following so that you will know what to do if you would like to run. It will be very important to have good student leaders this summer and fall as we look to plan how we will reopen school at some point.

Student Council Officers

You do not have to be an incoming senior to run for these positions. If you would like to run for Student Council, you can run for President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Public Relations. A document explaining each of these roles is attached to this email. In order to run, you must submit a video recording of yourself delivering your speech.

You  must email the recording of your speech to both Ms. LaBelle and Mr. Ogden--just copy us both on the email. In the email subject line put your name and grade and position you are running for.

Video requirements

  • You must start your video by holding a sign stating your full name and position you want to run for. If you want to do this by adding it as a graphic you can do that.

  • The video is just your speech--no graphics or music. If you wish to make other campaign materials they must be approved by Ms. LaBelle and Mr. Ogden.

  • The video cannot be longer than 2 minutes.

  • Student council speeches are due by  5/20

  • Speeches will then be available on YouTube on 5/26 in the morning. A link will be sent to all students to view the speeches.

  • A Google Form will be sent to students for voting. This form will open 5/26 at 10 am and close on 5/27 at 8pm.

Any candidate who does not win in the Student Council election is welcome to run for class office.

At-large members of the student council do not need to make a speech, but they do need to write an essay as to why they would be a good addition to the student council, and they must get a teacher’s recommendation. There is a form attached to this email for that process.

Class Officer Elections

If you would like to run for your class office, you can run for Class President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and 2 Class Representative positions. Some classes also have a Public Relations position. To run, you must sign up with your adviser.

  • Juniors email Mrs. Lerner and Mrs. Cairns

  • Sophomores email Mr. Zimmerman and Ms. Makovoz

  • Freshmen email Ms. Boda and Ms. Vavra

Speech requirements are similar to the student council videos:

  • Your video is just of you giving a speech about your qualifications and what you hope to do for your class.

  • You must start the video with a sign or graphic that states your full name and position you are running for.

  • There can be no music or graphics--just the speech. (If you want to make other campaign materials that is an option, but they must be approved by your adviser before being sent to classmates.

  • The video can be no longer than 2 minutes.

  • Email your class officer video speech to Ms. LaBelle and Mr. Ogden by 5/29.

  • The speeches will be available on YouTube on 6/2 in the morning. A link will be sent to all students to view the speeches.

  • A Google Form will be sent to students for voting. This Form will be sent on 6/2 at 10 am and close on 6/3 at 8 pm.
