Dear Parents, Caregivers and Staff,

We have received requests for a status update on when another parent meeting will be scheduled.

At the conclusion of the last School Committee meeting on February 7th, we all expected information from the various state agencies to come in more quickly, which is where another meeting prior to vacation would have made sense.  We are still waiting for final word from Division of Labor Services.

We've instructed Superintendent Gerardi to schedule a meeting ASAP with parents, school principals, and our environmental consultant to provide the latest information, even if not much has changed since the last meeting.

We agree that new information needs to be provided, it may not end up being before the abatement process begins, but a meeting does need to happen. We expect a date to be announced today.

Our priority is getting PreK and K re-opened the Monday after February vacation and our team is working tremendously hard to make that happen.

Thank you all for your continued patience,

Dawn Capello, Maynard School Committee

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Staff,

The Maynard School Committee is putting together this page to store updates, documents, and information relevant to the concerns with air quality at the Green Meadow Elementary School.

First and foremost, please accept our most sincere apology for the lack of a centralized location to find answers and for lapses in timely communication.  The health and safety of our students and staff truly has been and will continue to be our number one priority and we are working hard to ensure this.

We appreciate your patience as we work through the challenges presented and we assure you that our Administration, Facilities, and DPW are bringing in the appropriate experts and State agencies to guide us.

If you have any questions, please email gmbuilding@maynard.k12.ma.us

Thank you,

Maynard School Committee

Dear Green Meadow School Community,

As a follow-up email to the information that Principals Dankner and Shea sent today, I would like to provide you with the most up-to-date information available from the district level.  The Town Administrator, DPW Director, Assistant Facilities Director, and I met with the Town's asbestos consultant this morning. I learned that their company represents about 60% of the towns in Massachusetts and some of our neighboring communities as well.

In regard to the abatement plan, The consultant is required to work with various state agencies to get the plan approved before it is an official plan. That approval process is being worked on by the consultant starting today.  We are hoping that the approval can come quickly. As soon as we have an approved plan, I will be organizing a parent meeting where the plan can be communicated.

Today we proactively ordered the pods that arrived.  We did this so that we can be ready when the plan is approved to have the furniture and supplies appropriately moved out of the building and into the pods.  Then the staff will be able to relocate into their new teaching spaces. All of this is being done in preparation for the approved plan.

Sincerely,

Superintendent Gerardi
