A Strong Start to 2016!

posted Jan 8, 2016, 7:02 AM by Chuck Caragianes

Good afternoon—

It seems like the school year began just a short while ago, and yet the calendar indicates that the halfway point in the year is little more than 2 weeks away.

Our first week back from break has gone very smoothly and students are back in academic gear and working well.

Semester exams begin 2 weeks from today, the full schedule including 1 early release day is below, and this is a time of the academic year when attendance is of particular importance.  Critical assignments will soon be due and review periods for exams will be commencing; so please be sure your students are here every possible day on time.   I continue to recommend a 7:30 arrival at the latest.

Winter sports remain in full swing with both girls and boys teams in action.  Check out the Athletics website for dates, times and locations of upcoming games.

An Important Note on Parking, Student Drop-Off and Student Pick-Up:

As a reminder our student parking lot is the lot closest to Tiger Drive on the auditorium side of the building, our visitor parking is directly in front of the main entrance and our Faculty & Staff Parking Lot is by the Gymnasium.  When these lots are used as designated there is ample room in each area even under snow conditions and traffic flow in the morning and afternoon is excellent.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up by both drivers and school busses occurs in the circular drive directly in front of the main entrance.

Vans and approved cars for students with physical needs use the handicapped designated spots in front of the gymnasium entrance and these spots should never be used or blocked, even briefly, by other vehicles.

It has been our experience that when the parking lots and drives are all used appropriately and as designed we have very few traffic issues even with more than 500 people arriving at MHS within a roughly 30 minute span.  Please park and use the drives as designed.

Recently, there have been a small but increasing number of vehicles inappropriately using the gymnasium side of the building for drop-offs and the handicapped access area has been blocked or impeded.  Traffic flow is also impacted as drivers leaving the Faculty & Staff’s parking area congest the intersection at the lot entryway.  This practice needs to stop for the sake of students and adults who truly need access to the handicapped spots and entrance as well as for overall traffic flow on the campus.
