I hope everyone is continuing to enjoy their summer days and time off. We are now just 12 days away from the opening of school here at Maynard High School on Wednesday August 29th. Our custodial staff continues to work very hard preparing the building for the new year, and things are looking quite good as we prepare to welcome our students back for what will be the final school year of the current Maynard High School building.
As a reminder, the Annual Freshmen Cookout and Welcome will be held this coming Tuesday August 21st from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. Information regarding IPADs & Freshmen mentoring will be presented, schedules will be available, guidance counselors will be on hand, building tours will be conducted by upperclassmen, and a cookout will be held. We are hoping every freshman and his or her parents or guardians have a chance to join us!
A few quick updates:
For news on Maynard High School Athletics from Mr. Caruso
our Athletic Director, check out the following
Schedules for all students are available on IPASS at this time. Should you have any questions please contact the high school to communicate with one of our guidance counselors.
Tiger Drive has been patched and is now open for normal traffic after a week of digging to bring gas lines, water lines and sewage lines to the new high school building that is currently under construction. The quite large and impressive main heating and air conditioning units for the new building are now on site and are secured in the student parking lot. They will be lifted by crane into their final positions on the roof of the new building by August 27th. As a result, parking should not be an issue as we start the new school year.
I would like to welcome two new staff members to the Maynard High School community.
Our new school nurse is Ms. Maureen Jones. Maureen has considerable school based experience as a nurse, and has substituted here in Maynard in the past at both the Fowler School and Green Meadow School. A school nurse is an invaluable resource at a school for students and their families and we are quite fortunate indeed to have such a qualified and caring professional join us. Welcome Maureen!
I am very excited to announce that Ms. Purnima Vadhera will be joining us as our new Assistant Principal. Purnima has extensive public school experience as a former AP Biology teacher and as a science chair in Brighton, as an assistant principal in Newton and most recently as an interim principal in Somerville. I can honestly say I’ve never had the pleasure of encountering a person so well prepared, and highly referred for a position. I am certain Purnima will make a positive impact on Maynard High School and be a true asset for our students. I look forward to a hugely productive partnership with Ms. Vadhera in the coming years. Welcome Purnima!
That’s it for now.
Take care and continue to enjoy the summer sunshine--
