Bidding Adieu to 2012

As the calendar grows short in 2012 it is worthwhile to reflect on the past year even as we prepare for the year ahead.

With the tragedy of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut fresh in our minds we have all been reminded that the most valuable and precious things in the world are our children, our families and each other.  At Maynard High School we are committed to creating a safe and positive environment for our students as they grow, learn and prepare for the challenges of adult life beyond high school.

The first 4 months of this school year have certainly been eventful ones at Maynard High School.   We have completed a successful NEASC Accreditation visit in October, are implementing a new teacher evaluation system, have rolled iPADs out to our 9th and 10th graders as well as the staff, and created an exciting new partnership with MassBay Community College.  We have handled all of these major initiatives while maintaining a positive and academically rigorous learning environment.

Behind our school the new Maynard High School continues to progress, on time and on budget, as one construction target after another is reached.  The new building is now being heated internally and is ready for full scale construction operations through the winter.  We continue to point toward an on time opening for grades 8 to 12 next August.

Shout Out
The winter concert this past Wednesday was incredible as all of our musical groups performed beautifully.  The auditorium was full, the mood was bright and our students were simply fantastic.  Thanks go out to Ms. Erickson, and to our parents and support groups including the MMA.  Thank you all so much.

On Friday January 18, 2013 our current 8th graders will be visiting the high school for "Up-Day".  Activities include visits to classrooms to observe actual classes in session, information about sports and activities that are available at Maynard High School, and a question and answer session with a panel of current Maynard High students.  Work is being done right now to prepare for a 7th grade "Up-Day" in the early spring as these students will be joining us as 8th graders in the new Maynard High School.

Mid-Term exams are fast approaching at the high school.  Exams are scheduled for the 22nd through 25th with early release days (11:00am dismissals) scheduled for the 23rd, 24th & 25th.  The 22nd will be a full school day with a 2:05pm dismissal.

Our School Site Council will be reforming after the first of the year.  Further information regarding the purpose, procedures and formation of this group will be out very shortly.

The school vacation begins today with the close of school at 2:05pm and extends until students return on Wednesday January 2nd in the morning.

On behalf of the staff at Maynard High School I wish you a wonderful school break, a happy holiday season, and a joyous and peaceful New Year.

See you in 2013!
