Bye Bye Birdie Takes Flight Tomorrow Night!

posted Mar 13, 2015, 10:00 AM by Chuck Caragianes

Good afternoon—

Another busy week has flown by at Maynard High School.  This week we passed the halfway point for the 3rd grading quarter and graduation is less than 3 months off for our seniors.  Spring sports practices are poised to begin on Monday March 16th.  A full array of events and activities are coming up as you can see below.

Academic Scheduling for 2015-2016

As incredible as it may seem, we are I the process of moving on toward the 2015-2016 school year.  We are already weeks into the process of creating a schedule for students and staff for next year.  This time consuming process will take several more weeks to complete as we look for the best possible mix of course offerings at all grades and levels and the optimal placement of each class in the school day all within the constraints of available teaching staff and budget.  The time spent on schedule revisions and adjustments is worth it, however, as the goal is to give each student the best possible schedule for their individual needs.

Bye Bye Birdie Opens Tomorrow at Maynard High School!!

Maynard High School is proud to present “Bye Bye Birdie”, the popular ‘50s musical, next month. “Bye Bye Birdie” is the story of Albert, a songwriter and manager of Conrad Birdie, a famous rock star, who makes girls and women of any age swoon! Kim, a teen girl from Sweet Apple, OH, is chosen to be the lucky recipient of Conrad’s last, much-publicized kiss before he heads off to war.  Chaos ensues! Kim’s boyfriend is upset, her girlfriends are hysterical and Albert’s long-suffering fiancée Rose is at war with his overbearing mother!

The talented cast and crew consist of over 50 students from MHS and the Fowler School.  The students have poured hours of their time and effort into rehearsals in order to present this fabulous musical for the enjoyment of the Maynard community and are excited about their contribution to the performing arts in our town.

Performances will be as follows: Saturday, March 14 at 7:00PM; Sunday, March 15 at 2:00 PM; Saturday, March 21 at 7:00 PM and Sunday, March  22 at 2:00 PM. Tickets prices are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Tickets are available online at and on Sat Mar 14th  5:00-7:00pm (2 hours prior to Opening Night show) & Sun Mar 15th  12:00-2:00pm (2 hours prior to Matinee).

Maynard High Students are Getting Ready for a Musical Journey to Washington DC

This spring our band and chorus students will be travelling to our nation’s capitol for a week of competition, learning and fun.

The trip committee is holding a mandatory parent and student meeting on Monday, April 6th, from 6:30 to 7:30 in the High School auditorium.  The committee will go over the trip itinerary and review final instructions.

To make sure every student is outfitted appropriately we are asking that every band uniform, tux, dress or regalia be turned in by students who will not be using them so if you have a currently enrolled band or chorus student who is not going on the DC trip, please have them return their uniforms, gowns, all tux parts, any parts from past years that linger with a $10 dry cleaning fee to Mrs. Blanchard in the band room in an effort to clean and then attire students who presently lack a uniform for the upcoming trip.

Update on Special Education in Maynard

On Wednesday, March 18th at 7pm the Maynard SEPAC will meet in the Fowler School library. This event is free and open to the public. Please RSVP to or call 978-897-2705.

Coffee with the Principal (3rd Times the Charm)

After two snow outs, it is time for coffee with the principal.  Please join with Superintendent Gerardi and myself at a Coffee with the Principal evening on Thursday night March 19th from 7:00-8:00pm in the Maynard High Media Center.  Recent school developments will be shared including our experiences with the PARCC Test, and our results running a foreign exchange program for the first time this year.   An open discussion and question and answer session will be part of the evening’s program.
