Enjoy Your Spring Vacation!

posted Apr 13, 2018, 10:25 AM by Chuck Caragianes

Good afternoon,

The spring school vacation week is here with no classes next week.  The school will reopen for classes on Monday April 23rd at 7:00am with breakfast service.

Three quarters of the school year has now been completed and the end of the school year will be coming up quickly.  Our Prom is on Friday May 4th and our graduation ceremony little more than a month after that on the evening of Friday June 8th.  The final quarter of the year always seems to fly by.

At this time we are constructing the schedule for the 2018-2019 school year taking into account our students’ course selections.  We anticipate this process will be complete at the beginning of May with student schedules distributed well before the end of the school year.  That will leave ample time should any adjustments or corrections be needed on any individual student’s schedule prior to the end of the school year.

It’s always a pleasure to share great student news with the community and that is the case here once again with thanks to Mr. Ogden for the following:

To be nominated for a New England Student Emmy Award is a tremendous honor, with literally thousands of student submissions every year bidding for top spots.

Last year Maynard had 1 nomination, as  Tyler Cedeno and Jaden Meyer received a nomination in the Best Entertainment Category for: Hype City

This year, Maynard had 3 nominations and 1 grand prize winner!

  • Maeve McCarthy, whose video also recently won Best in State and will be representing MA in the Elk's National Anti Drug Competition, was nominated for Best PSA for her heartfelt and warm: Anti-Drug PSA. The national results will be announced this summer, and we will be rooting for her.

  • Also, Joel Stenhouse, Kyle Lindfors, Betania Pimental, and Dylan Silva were nominated for Best PSA, for their creative and funny money-saving message that takes us back to the olden times of 2003: Time is Money.

  • Justin Wilkins, Pat O'Neil, Madelyn Candella, and Mike Boyle were also nominated for Best PSA: for a Safe Driving PSA.

  • Finally, Max Bakalos, featuring Ben Hudak, took first place in the Best Animation Category: for Dream Drawing.  This 100 hour production, showcasing a struggling artist, demonstrates a brilliant use of stop motion, audio design, lighting, directing, and more!  It will now represent New England against the West, MidWest, and South, for Best in the Nation.

Congratulations to the students who were nominated.  Hard work, creativity, and collaboration can truly pay off.

Maynard High School Needs You!

A message from our Senior Project Teachers Jean LaBelle & Paul Orzech:

Dear Community Partners,

Please join Maynard High School Senior Project students as they present their findings and projects at the annual Spring Presentation event. The event includes a luncheon for teachers and community partners and concludes with panel presentations that you will help judge.

Each student presentation will summarize the student's experience in the program—their research, internship and project, as well as their assessment of how well they met the school competencies requirements.  You will be assigned to a panel that will include a Maynard High School teacher. Panelists will ask the seniors questions about their projects and placements. Panelists will provide feedback to the students about the strengths and areas for improvement in their presentations.  It promises to be a rewarding experience for you and for the students!

Thanks to the Maynard Education Foundation for approval of an administrator grant, this year the luncheon will include a brief presentation by Dr. Gerardi called Massachusetts and Maynard Leading the Nation: celebrating the 25th anniversary of education reform.

Date: Friday, May 11, 2018

Luncheon: 11:15 AM-12:15 PM
