Graduation Day!

posted Jun 8, 2018, 1:57 PM by Chuck Caragianes

Good afternoon,

It is Graduation Day at Maynard High School.  The distinguished members of the class of 2018 are preparing to receive their diplomas this evening in ceremonies that will be beginning at 6:30pm.  I hope you have an opportunity to join us.

This past Wednesday our Seniors participated in our annual Senior Awards Night where scores of awards were given for outstanding achievement in academics, community service, sports and the arts.  In addition, more than 70 locally based scholarships were awarded lending tens of thousands of dollars of support to our deserving, graduating seniors. Many thanks go out to all who participated and were so generous with their donations of time, money and emotional support.

On another note, Senior Samantha Dahill was recently awarded the High School Hobey Baker Award for ice hockey.

The High School Hobey Baker award is awarded to the Senior athlete who displays coachability, strength of character, integrity, commitment, community leadership and outstanding sportsmanship.  The bar is set quite high for each characteristic to the extent that the award is not given out in every year, as in some years the criteria are not met.

Samantha’s achievements on and off the ice are consistently outstanding and she is to be saluted for this wonderful acknowledgement of her leadership and character.

There are just 9 school days left this academic year.  As has been the case for many years, there will be early dismissals at 10:55am during final exam and assessment week from Monday June 18th through the last day of school on Thursday June 21st.  These are a critical two weeks ahead. Though the academic year is 95% complete, it is important that your student continues to get to school on time, buckle down and study hard each class and each day, and do everything possible to end the academic year well.  This will result in enhanced grades, a sense of real accomplishment, set them up to start next year on the right foot, and give them the feeling of having earned their summer break.

Now thanks to Mr. Ogden’s Classes a New Installments of the Maynard High News!

In This Week's Episode:

New co-hosts Diego and Drew take over the anchor roles.  Meghan has some impressive track feats. Jose talks about the World Cup.  Jordan and Emma talk women's fashion & more!

Thank you for your support, and let us know if you have any end of the year announcements for our final episodes.

An Important Message From Our School Nurse Regarding Medications

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We are nearing the end of the school year and students who have medicine in the Health Office will need to have any leftover medications picked up by a parent or another designated adult. Department of Public Health (DPH) regulations do not permit us to send home medication with children.

Therefore, we ask that you let your School Nurse know what you would like to do with your child’s leftover medication before the last week of school:

(a) hold on to leftover medication for you to pick up at the school, or

(b) have us dispose of leftover medication.

Medication that has not been picked up by June 28, 2018 (one week beyond the close of school) will be presumed to be unwanted, and consequently will be destroyed in accordance with DPH and Maynard Public School’s Medication Administration guidelines.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Mary Ferranti, BSN, RN, NCSN

Lead Nurse for Maynard Public Schools
