Graduation Saturday June 10, 2017 at 4:00pm

Good morning,

 

It’s Graduation Time!

 

Graduation is, of course, the natural highlight of every school year at Maynard High School.  Graduation will be held tomorrow, Saturday June 10th, at 4:00pm at Alumni Field weather permitting where seating is unlimited.  In the event of inclement weather or an unfavorable weather forecast, our graduation will be held indoors in our gymnasium where seating is limited to 6 guests per graduate and admission will be allowed for  invitation holders only.

 

Our seniors have enjoyed a wonderful week with their White Water Rafting Trip, Senior Awards Night and Boston harbor Cruise.  Now it’s on to the biggest event of all--graduation itself!

 

Our underclassmen and 8th graders have been quite busy as well.  All MCAS testing for the year has been completed and now it is on to year end assessments and the wrap up of the school year.

 

Underclassmen final exams for grades 9-11 begin next week on Tuesday afternoon.  The final 6 days of school are quite important.  Please help keep your student focused and on track right through the last day of school on June 19th.

 

Meanwhile, spring sports seasons are finishing up at this time along with our clubs and activities.  Our baseball won its first two playoff games advancing further into the tournament than it has in years.  The team lost to undefeated Tahanto 3-0 Thursday night in a well played game that ends a fantastic season.  Congratulations go out to all of our athletes, musicians and club participants for an outstanding year in a wide range of extracurricular activities.

 

Of particular note:  During underclassmen exams there are early release days for grades 8-11 on Wednesday June 14th, Thursday June 15th & Friday June 16th.  Breakfast will be served beginning at 7:00am as is normal, students will be released at 10:55am and lunch will not be served.  Monday June 19th, the final day of the school year, is an early release day for all students in all three buildings in Maynard. Maynard High will again serve breakfast starting at 7:00am, students will be dismissed at 10:55am and lunch will not be served.

 

Once again, please make sure to keep your student on track with rock solid attendance, effort and work completion right until the last day of school on June 19th.

 

And now more MHS News from Mr. Ogden’s Radio & Television Production Class

 

A very special school newscast is coming at you this week!

 

These are the Senior Newscasts, and their final projects.

 

For their finals, only seniors could produce and direct, while I took a backseat role.  Each newscast had to include: anchor roles, sports, music/entertainment, the arts, a student focus segment, graphics, and community video pieces that were provided to every group.

 

This was a true team/class effort, with seniors getting a taste of managerial experience in the television production field.  These newscasts demonstrate scripting and planning, camera work, producing, interviewing, directing, graphic/special effects, composition, studio managing, editing, talent, and more.

 

THE CHALLENGE: The newscast that receives the most positive comments will be crowned the winner.  So make sure to spread the word to write our seniors a nice message that they can see as they pursue the next stages of their lives.

You may find the following information and description of upcoming events of use and interest in the days ahead:

 

Savers Fundraiser at the High School for Spanish Exchange program

Time to do some spring cleaning?  We will be collecting gently used clothing, linens, shoes and small household items (no books, electronics or furniture please) on Saturday 6/17 from 9AM - 2PM in front of the high school.  There will also be a collection box in the front lobby of the high school where you can drop off your donations starting June 5th. We have a group of Spanish exchange students visiting Maynard High School this fall for about a week and we would like to be able to show them some of the local sites that make our area so special.  We hope to raise funds to help defray the cost of these activities and to help our students be able to visit the Spanish students in their homes next year as well. Please consider going through your closets and helping us out!  Thank you so much.

 

Interested in having your child participate in an international travel opportunity to Amsterdam and Berlin during the summer of 2018 with a focus on technology ?

As our world becomes increasingly interconnected, it is critical for our students to become more culturally aware, explore new ideas and grow their potential. I believe that when students are able to see technology come to life outside of the classroom, they develop a new and valuable perspective of the world.

I will be hosting an informational meeting on Monday, June 12th at 7 PM at the Maynard High School Library to provide more details about this opportunity and answer any questions you may have. There is limited space on the trip and enrollment will be open at the end of the meeting.

Please send me an email by Friday, June 6th to ensure I can accommodate everyone in our meeting space.

2017-2018 BUS REGISTRATION

Bus registration for the 2017-2018 school year will begin on May 1, 2017.  NEW THIS YEAR: The deadline for registration is June 30.  Registration hours on May 1 will be 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Registration will take place at the administrative offices at 3-R Tiger Drive.  We are now located near the main office of the Fowler School.  Forms will be available for download on our website starting April 28.  No forms will be accepted until May 1.  There is no fee increase this year.  $270.00 for the first student; $220 for the second or more students.  Late fee:  $30.00 for registrations after June 30.

Note:  if you have a student entering 7th grade at a distance of 2 miles or more, you must now pay the fee.
