We have just completed the first week of the 2016-2017 school year in great style and we are off and running.
Our guidance counselors have been hard at work resolving any scheduling issues that can, unfortunately, arise for some students. This year the total number of students requiring scheduling adjustments was quite small (Though for those students and families involved it is always a bit unsettling until everything is set). I spoke with the guidance staff at about noon today and at this time virtually every student has been squared away. This is a huge difference from my first year at MHS in August of 2011 when lines could be seen in front of the guidance area all day long for a full week. Thank you to Ms. MacLean, Ms. MacPhee & Ms. Muise for all of their hard work helping to get the school year off to a great start.
Now that our students have met their teachers, found their lockers, and gotten used to to how their schedules work we will be pausing for four days during the Labor Day break. There is no school from Friday September 2nd through Monday September 5th. We will reopen on Tuesday September 6th at 7:00am. Starting Tuesday the rhythm of the school year will really be established and we will be looking for outstanding student attendance including, timeliness in the morning, to help establish the flow that is essential to learning.
Clubs and activities will be starting up soon and are open to all of our students. Fall sports are underway, but it’s not too late to begin if a student signs up soon.
