Hats Off to Mrs. Lerner!

posted Apr 27, 2018, 10:10 AM by Chuck Caragianes

Good afternoon,

I’d like to begin this week by sending a shout out along to Chemistry teacher Rochelle Lerner who also is also our faculty Advisor for our Green Committee student organization.

Rochelle was part of the planning committee that organized Maynard’s first ever Earth Day Celebration and she along with about 20 student volunteers turned out to help with town clean-ups.  Later in the day this hearty group then volunteered for food sales to the many hungry revelers who turned out This week’s Beacon-Villager has a wonderful story about the event that you may want to have a look at.

Additionally, Mrs. Lerner has been working with The Society of Women Engineers of Southern New Hampshire to establish a scholarship fund to benefit a Maynard High School graduating senior who is a young woman headed into an engineering or STEM related field.  Mrs. Lerner was the keynote speaker at the groups fundraising event at the Maynard Elks where her comments were incredibly well received by more than 225 people. More than $20,000 was raised for future scholarships at this tremendous event.

Should you see Rochelle in your travels be sure to let her know you appreciate her efforts on behalf of the students at Maynard High School and the greater Maynard community.

This coming Wednesday May 2nd we will be doing our annual “Mock Accident” in coordination with the Maynard Fire and Police Departments further supported by several local agencies and businesses.  This activity helps to clearly demonstrate the dangers and consequences of impaired driving and is done just prior to our prom each year. Juniors and seniors, along with any other students attending the prom, will participate in this event.  Our goal, as always, is to keep students informed about safety, safe choices and their own role in creating a safe environment for themselves and their community.

On another note, at this time we are constructing the schedule for the 2018-2019 school year taking into account our students’ course selections.  We anticipate this process will be complete at the beginning of May with student schedules distributed well before the end of the school year. That will leave ample time should any adjustments or corrections be needed on any individual student’s schedule prior to the end of the school year.

Now thanks to Mr. Ogden’s Classes the Latest Installment of the Maynard High News!

Maynard High School Needs You!

A message from our Senior Project Teachers Jean LaBelle & Paul Orzech:

Dear Community Partners,

Please join Maynard High School Senior Project students as they present their findings and projects at the annual Spring Presentation event. The event includes a luncheon for teachers and community partners and concludes with panel presentations that you will help judge.

Each student presentation will summarize the student's experience in the program—their research, internship and project, as well as their assessment of how well they met the school competencies requirements.  You will be assigned to a panel that will include a Maynard High School teacher. Panelists will ask the seniors questions about their projects and placements. Panelists will provide feedback to the students about the strengths and areas for improvement in their presentations.  It promises to be a rewarding experience for you and for the students!

Thanks to the Maynard Education Foundation for approval of an administrator grant, this year the luncheon will include a brief presentation by Dr. Gerardi called Massachusetts and Maynard Leading the Nation: celebrating the 25th anniversary of education reform.

Date: Friday, May 11, 2018

Luncheon: 11:15 AM-12:15 PM
