The month of September is going out on a high note this year here at the high school.
This afternoon we had a wonderful whole school Pep Rally to launch homecoming weekend. Thank you to Ms. Erickson and Mr. Caruso for organizing the rally and to Dr. Gerardi our Superintendent for his attendance and remarks to the school community.
We have a full slate of activities scheduled for homecoming weekend starting with a boys varsity soccer game tonight at 7:00pm and continuing with girls field hockey and football on Saturday. There will also be a range of family fun on Saturday with our gym as the rain location. Finally, Saturday ends with our homecoming dance at the school. Again, thank you to Mr. Caruso for taking the lead in putting this all together along with the help of many other staff members. Check out the homecoming link on our homepage for more details.
I'd like to thank the folks at CTA, the construction company building the new high school, for completing their work on Tiger Drive one day early this week as they brought power and data lines from route 117 to the new high school. This should be the final disruption of traffic and parking this school year as we build our new school. As a reminder, the new building is now more than 50% complete, all steel work is done, all major concrete pours have been finished and all of the utilities have now been brought underground all the way to the construction site. The structure will be fully enclosed by Thanksgiving with internal work then proceeding at a tremendous pace. The project remains on time, and on budget.
Academically the school year is now clearly in full swing. Mrs. Vadhera our Assistant Principal, and I have been visiting classrooms and our staff is working very hard to bring a quality education to our students. Our students, meanwhile, are a bright, hard working group that are a credit to the Maynard community. Great job, everyone!
Major initiatives at the high school are now well underway. The roll out of iPADs is all but complete, our freshmen mentoring pilot has launched under the guidance of Ms. Muise, Ms. Schuster, and Ms. MacLean, and our new tech classes led by Mr. Mollica are proceedding smoothly and well. We have also begun looking into new partnerships with MassBay Community College and an expanded visiting foreign student program. Expect more news and updates on these partnerships in the coming weeks as Mrs. Vadhera leads the way.
Have a great homecoming weekend and......
