It Must Fall: Back to School Night, PSATs and Much More!

posted Sep 22, 2014, 10:36 AM by Chuck Caragianes

Good afternoon—

Today marks the last day of summer and fall in New England is officially upon us.  This means that all of our sports teams are competing and all of our Clubs are up and running.

PSATs are fast approaching, Back to School Night is next week, our Guidance Counselors are working diligently as we enter college application season, we are still actively looking for host families for international exchange students and it is photo time.  Details on all of these items follow.

A major event in the early fall is our annual “Back to School Night” where parents have an opportunity to walk through their children’s schedules and find out what the expectations for learning are in each class.  Though you will certainly meet all of your child’s teachers, this event is meant to be informative for groups of parents rather than individualized to each student.  Opportunities to meet with teachers individually are scheduled for November after the first report card of the year is issued, or by appointment made through guidance at any time.  This year Back to School Night is October  1st.  Our doors will open at 6:00pm and the event will end at 8:30pm.

As the year unfolds our guidance department is very active.  Student schedules are complete, our seniors are actively in college application mode, and PSATs are on the horizon.  PSATs will be held on Saturday October 18th at Maynard High School. Students must report by 7:30am and the test will be complete by 11:00am.  Superintendent Gerardi has approved funding so that Juniors may take the test for free.  Interested students who are not Juniors should consult with their guidance counselors if they are interested in taking the test.  There is a $22.00 fee for all non-Juniors who wish to take the test.  Our Guidance Website is a great source of information and is linked to the Maynard High School homepage.  You can check it out directly at--

We are still seeking host families for two boys.  They are already here attending Maynard High and in dire need of a family/families to house them for the rest of the school year.  Join your neighbors and share your wonderful community by welcoming an international student into your home. Host families provide a loving, warm, and supportive family environment. Educatius offers a monthly stipend of $700.00 for each student and a family can host up to 2 students. This can be a positive and rewarding experience for everyone in your home. Hosting a student can provide you with amazing opportunities and lifelong friendships. Picture day was held today.  This photo will be used in the Yearbook and is being done by Prestige Portraits which is a division of Lifetouch Studios.  Group photos will be done tomorrow, Tuesday September 23rd.  Make-ups will be scheduled for next month.  If you have any questions, regarding your order, please call Prestige Portraits at 800-426-9533 ext 117 or email Mr. Orzech:

Thank you for reading and welcome to fall 2014!
