What a busy but good week!
The year is of to an excellent start. Students have moved seamlessly into the new year and activities and sports are getting up and running.
The football team had a wonderful gathering Thursday night supported by the Friends of Football. The student-athletes, their coaches, families and friends had a wonderful time. Today our Freshmen class met to hear speeches from fellow freshmen students who are running for student government. Elections will be held on Monday September 10th. Today the Maynard Fire Department ran an unannounced mandatory drill. Our building was completely empty in 1 minute and 40 seconds and our students and staff were flawless in their execution of the drill. Safety drills such as this are obviously necessary, and it is gratifying to see such a mature and professional approach taken by our entire school community.
Next, a few worthwhile notices:
Our annual "Back to School Night" is coming up on Wednesday September 19th and will run from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Come experience your student's schedule, hear about their classes and meet their teachers.
Our Homecoming Weekend will be Friday & Saturday September 28th & 29th. Tickets are available for $15.00 and entitle the bearer to entry to a wide range of sporting events over the weekend. The football team will be playing at 5:00 pm Saturday night with a homecoming dance to follow.
The Maynard Music Association's (MMA) annual Casino Night will be Saturday November 3 from 6:30 to 9:30pm at the Maynard Elks Club, with the gaming portion of the evening running from 7:30 to 9:30pm.
The MMA also would like you to know that any Band or Chorus uniforms or costumes that may inadvertently be in your home are now greatly needed. If you have any Band or Chorus clothing at home that is not being used by a student at the High School during this school year, please let the President of the MMA, Kathy Scouteguazza, know. Kathy can be reached at 978-897-2713.
Our PTO is also up and active. The first meeting of the PTO this year will be on Thursday September 20th at 7:00pm in the High School Library. All are welcome and invited to attend!
The Buy A Brick fundraiser is underway. Please check out www.maynardhsbricks.com or like us on Facebook for order forms and more information.
The three PTO’s, in collaboration with the Maynard Education Foundation (MEF), invite you to become part of our town history through the MHS Buy-a-Brick campaign. The bricks come in two sizes, 4”x8”, or an 8”x8” square; each paver will be elegantly etched with your own personalized text and placed in the front walkway of the new high school. Cement your place in history with a commemorative brick honoring past or future graduates, the whole family or in memory of a loved one. These are high-quality pavers produced here in Massachusetts, each engraved with your special message! All proceeds will be evenly distributed to the PTO and Maynard Educational Foundation to be used in educational endeavors supported by these groups. All orders must be placed By December 30, 2012 in order to be installed in early spring of 2013.
Also, support the PTO by donating your old books, DVD’s and videotapes to the Got Books recycling bin near the student parking lot of the high school. The PTO receives a percentage of the total pounds of material donated and uses this money to support educational activities, the teacher luncheon and student scholarship, among other things.

The Boosters Club has had a very active start of the year sponsoring a joint Music-Sports cookout attended by 175 people two weeks ago. They are also taking a tremendously helpful and supportive role during Homecoming Weekend. Be a Booster! Next meeting is October 4th in the High School Library.
Our New Building continues to be on time and on budget. Within the next two weeks the total project will reach the halfway point toward completion. Main power lines to the new building will be installed within the next 10 days. NSTAR and project managers are working out final details. This will necessitate closing of sections of Tiger Drive with very short notice. Please bear with us for a few days when this does occur.
That's it for this week.
Take care and have a great weekend!
