MHS Students Making a Difference

posted Sep 23, 2016, 11:34 AM by Chuck Caragianes

Good afternoon from Maynard High School--

Saturday September 17th was a good day for Maynard High as 26 students led by Mrs. Lerner and two Maynard parents came out for the annual OARS river cleanup.  Everyone  worked hard to pull about a ton of debris out of the river including 2 tires, a bike, skateboards, toys, glass bottles and much more. After the cleanup Congresswoman Nikki Tsongas and State Representative Kate Hogan came by for pictures and to commend all of the participants.  Pictures of the group are currently on Kate Hogan’s Facebook page and will be in the Beacon.

Our new video production class led by Mr. Ogden has begun a weekly News Bulletin that will be coming your way.  You can see the broadcast that went out to our students at the following link:

This should be a great new way to get information about the goings on at Maynard High School.

On the sports front our student-athletes are all doing well both in the classroom and on the field.  Just yesterday Maynard’s brand-new varsity Cross Country team, consisting of grades 7-12, posted a strong showing at its second meet, a triple-header between Murdock High School, Clinton High School, and Maynard. The Maynard girls’ varsity team won first place, led by an outstanding showing by its 7th grade girls! Placing in the meet were:

1st Grace Charron (grade 7) 24:17

3rd Aurora Estabrook (gr 7) 24:32

5th Liz Freeman (gr 7) 26:52

6th Claudia Severance (gr 7) 28:08

The Maynard Girls’ Varsity’s record is now 2-0.

Maynard Boys’ Varsity placed second in the meet, led by sophomore Adam Berry in 4th (20:20) and freshman J.W. Ringuette in 7th (20:49). A fantastic showing by our young team against larger schools with years of training behind them. Way to go, Maynard Tigers!

As you can see, our students continue to do great things at MHS in every way.
