Off To A Great Start!

Good afternoon--

I am pleased to report that the opening of Maynard High School went off superbly this week.

We greeted nearly 500 students on Thursday in grades 8 to 12, which represents the largest first day population at Maynard High School in approximately 50 years.

I want to thank all the parents and guardians who have sent their  sons and daughters to MHS and placed their trust in us to educate their children.  For the staff of Maynard High School, their can be no greater professional honor or responsibility than working with the children of Maynard and their families.

The first two days for students went seamlessly.  We gathered in the auditorium to begin the day with a brief program orchestrated by our student government members, and students were soon on their way to classes and class meetings.  The number of students with scheduling issues or requests was extremely limited and our guidance staff had these students squared away well before the end of the day.

Today, on the second day of school, I'm pleased to report that we had nearly 97% attendance with over 98% of the students who were in attendance also reporting on time.  We are expecting these sorts of numbers, or better, all year long.

There is a large, and growing, body of research that shows the extraordinarily strong link between student attendance and school achievement.  Please continue to have your children to school, on time, every day to help ensure the strongest possible level of achievement and personal growth for them.

Clubs, activities and sports are underway and it would be tremendous if every MHS student found a positive group to become involved with.  Sign-ups are happening right now.  Talk to your child about becoming involved in an extracurricular activity over the coming long weekend--it is a real opportunity to expand and extend friendships, organize the day and strengthen future college application profiles.

The staff at Maynard High School put in a great effort over the summer to launch this year successfully.  Their hard work has paid off and I want to thank them for their tireless devotion to the students of MHS.  I'd like to especially thank Kevin Caruso, our new Assistant Principal and Athletic Director, for working with me so diligently through the summer months.

Events and news will soon be flowing from Maynard High School as the new year unfolds and I look forward to communicating them to you in the coming weeks.

Best wishes--

Chuck Caragianes

Principal of Maynard High School
