One Million and Counting!!

posted Dec 18, 2015, 9:52 AM by Chuck Caragianes

Good afternoon—

First, I’d like to thank everyone who helped and contributed to the Beacon Santa Telethon this year.  As the event closed on the airwaves over $39,600 had been raised and over the 33 year history of the event the One Million Dollar mark was eclipsed.  By the time some final donations came in this week over $40,000 was raised this year all to benefit families in need in the greater Maynard community.  Our students, staff and supporters were phenomenal once again and there are too many thank yous to possibly list here.  Well done one and all.

Semester Exams are fast approaching starting 5 weeks from today.  This year we have reduced the early release days associated with exams from 3 days to 1.  The full schedule is listed below.

Not surprisingly, news and events continue at a rapid pace at this time of year.

Upcoming events & information follows:

Basketball & Toys for Tots

Tonight, Friday night 12/18/15, the Basketball Program in Partnership with the Maynard Police, will be sponsoring a "Toys for Tots" game as our Tigers faceoff against Littleton. Donate a toy at admission and you will receive a discounted entry for $3. Senior citizens and non-Maynard students will receive a discounted entry for $1.

Happy Holidays from Precious Metals Flutes

Please join the members of the Precious Metals Flute Ensemble for the 3rd concert in their series of Holiday Concerts! We will be performing arrangements of popular Christmas carols such as Oh Holy Night, Silent Night, Pat-a-pan, and more. It's fun for the whole family!

And the best part - the concert is free!  :-)

Our flute ensemble utilizes the piccolo, C flute, Alto flute, and Bass flute to create flowing and interweaving melodies and harmonies.

The Precious Metals Flute Ensemble is made up of flutist's Victor Villareal (founder/director), Cyndi Dacey, Katie Farrington, Rachael Carlson, Erin Dubois, Bethani Chadbourne, Eric Hong, Carol Dionne, and Ethan Lin.

Our Boosters Club Needs You!

The Booster Club is in need of volunteers to work at the concession stand during Friday night's home basketball games against Littleton.  We would never ask you to work concessions while your child is playing, but hope that you will consider helping out during games being played before or after your child plays.

We are looking for two parents of boys varsity basketball players to help out in the concession stand during the girls varsity game beginning at 6:00 p.m. and two parents of girls varsity players to help out during the boys varsity game beginning at 7:30 p.m.  If your child is not a varsity basketball player and want to volunteer on Friday, we would love to have you too!  Please email me if you are able to help out during these games.

In the next few days, I will be sending out a link to a sign up web site where you can sign up to volunteer at future games.  The concession stand is the number one source of fundraising by the Booster Club and all money raised is given back to your student athletes in the form of varsity letter jackets, trophies and scholarships.  Please consider volunteering at at least one home game this season.

Discounted Admission Passes

Discounted admission passes for 2015-2016 Maynard High School regular season home basketball games will be sold in the athletic entrance lobby on Friday 12/18 beginning at 5:30 p.m. 10 game passes are available for $25.00 and 20 game passes are available for $50.00. - that is a 50% savings off the regular adult admission price of $5.00 per game.  Checks can be made payable to Maynard Booster Club.

Stadium Seats

The Booster Club will also be selling Maynard Tigers stadium seats for $20.00 each - these seats make great Christmas gifts!

Thanks for your support!

Two Important Notices from the MHS Music Department

1) Anyone interested in being on the Disney trip committee, please email Mrs. Blanchard by the end of this week (to get on the list or confirm that you'd like to stay on the list if you've already mentioned interest). The committee will begin meeting in January so we want to make sure everyone's included that would like to be. It's a lot of work and a lot of fun!

2) We have a large a cappella and madrigal group this year, which means a large number of carolers for the 23rd and will need many parent drivers. Please contact Mrs. B asap to offer to chaperone/drive if you are a parent of a student in either group and can help out. It's an incredibly rewarding day.

PS Permission slips are due this week!

Thank you from Mrs. B!
