Summer Break Begins

posted Jun 23, 2016, 10:59 AM by Chuck Caragianes

Good afternoon--

The 2015-2016 school year has come to an end.  I’d like to thank the entire community for your support over the past year and am already looking forward to the 2016-2017 school year.

Though it is summer many activities will be occurring at MHS in the coming weeks.  Our main office will be open for business from 9:00am to 2:00pm Monday through Friday and I will be generally available through the summer.

There are upcoming events to be mindful of and updates will also go out over the summer as new information comes in about activities.

Announcements & Upcoming Activities and Events:

Summer Reading and Assignments

Summer reading lists, AP Work and more is available on the Maynard High School Website at:

https://sites.google.com/a/maynard.k12.ma.us/maynard-high-school/

Please check out this resource and, more importantly, make sure your student does too!

8th Grade Orientation and Cookout

Incoming 8th graders and their families are invited to our 8th Grade Orientation and Cookout to be held on Wednesday August 24th from 5:30-7:00pm.  Schedules will be handed out and discussed, tours of the building will be done and question and answer sessions for both students and parents and guardians will occur.

I look forward to meeting the incoming class of 2021 that evening!

Lost & Found

Items left in lockers and found in the building over the course of the year have been on display on a lost and found table near the gym at Maynard High School.  The lost and found tables have had  LOST and FOUND  items on display from noon Friday 6/17 and will continue to do so until noon on Friday 6/24.   Please make an effort to come by and claim your lost items.

All unclaimed items will be delivered to a Goodwill box at noon 6/24/2016

International Exchange Program

For almost two decades Maynard High School has had foreign exchange students attending our school to learn more about our culture while studying abroad.  A mutual benefit has been that ultimately they end up sharing their culture with us as well.

We are looking for host families.  Host families would welcome the student into their home and be given a stipend of $700 per month to cover expenses.  The students would need their own room with a bed, dresser, and desk.

Kevin Caruso has been supporting our international students and families in his role as our International Program Leader. If you are interested in learning more about how to become a host family please contact Kevin at (978) 897-8891.

A Special Request for a Host Family

Educatius International is seeking a host family for a female student from Brazil who will be here for the first semester only.  She is sixteen years old and is hoping to live with a Jewish family, however that is not mandatory, and we can make arrangements for her to attend a synagogue with another family.  She is very excited to be coming to Maynard so she can improve her English language skills and live in the “countryside” where there are farms and horse stables.  She is looking forward to experiencing a school that is very different from hers in Brazil.

Educatius reimburses host families $800 per month for their expenses, and because it is considered a reimbursement no taxes are taken out.  Please contact MaryEllen McCarthy at mccarthy.clan@verizon.net for more information.

Honor a Teacher by Participating in the Maynard Education Foundation's Teacher Tribute Program

Are you looking for a unique teacher gift that makes a difference in our schools?  Please consider participating in the Maynard Education Foundation's (MEF) Teacher Tribute Program. Proceeds benefit MEF's grant program for teachers, students, and administrators.

When you make a tax-deductible donation to MEF, we will send your child's teacher(s) a letter letting them know that your family has given a gift in his/her name to the Maynard Education Foundation (the amount of your donation will remain confidential).

To make a donation, please mail a check, along with the Teacher Tribute form (available for download at: http://www.maynardeducation.org) to MEF, PO Box 89, Maynard, MA 01754 or donate online at: http://www.maynardeducation.org.

(Please note that the deadline for receipt of donations is Friday, June 10, 2016. Donations received after that date may be acknowledged in September.)

Facilities Request Forms

Any group wishing to use the school buildings for meetings or activities are required to complete a Facilities Request Form.  Forms are available here at MHS and requests for use during the 2016-2017 school year are now coming in.  Requests from now through July will be processed in early August.
