Thanksgiving Approaches

posted Nov 17, 2017, 11:54 AM by Chuck Caragianes

Good afternoon,

I’d like to begin with a brief reminder that the Thanksgiving break begins next week at the close of school on Tuesday November 21st and continues until Monday November 27th when the building will reopen at 7:00 am.  I hope each of you has a restful, peaceful and joyous holiday celebration along with your friends and family.

This past week we held our Parent-Teacher conferences on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday night and I’d like to thank the scores of parents who visited with our teachers.  As a reminder, should you wish to meet with your students teachers at any time please contact your student’s guidance counselor to set up an appointment.

We have a busy week ahead even before the Thanksgiving holiday begins.  Tonight, Friday November 17th, we have our Homecoming Dance from 7:00-10:00 pm here at the high school.  On Monday afternoon and evening our annual Powderpuff Football Tournament will be played at Alumni Field followed by our 7th annual school Bonfire.  On Tuesday, our annual spirit week activities will culminate with a celebration in our gymnasium in the afternoon just prior to student dismissal.  Finally, on Thursday morning at 10:00 am our Tigers will take the field here at home against Marian in our traditional Thanksgiving Day game.

That’s a lot of activity and a lot of fun compressed into just a few days!

The Thanksgiving Day football game also signals the end of the fall sports season here at Maynard High School.  Winter sports practices will begin on Monday November 27th when we return to school.  Any student interested in playing a winter sport should see Mr. Caruso, our Athletic Director, right away.

In other great news, two weeks ago the Maynard Music Association hosted its annual Casino Night at the Maynard Elks Club and I’m pleased to report that an all time record of $15,486 was raised to support the music programs at the Fowler School and Maynard High School.  MMA President Bonnie Wilson sends along her deep thanks and gratitude to all who participated and donated.  This wonderful evening benefits hundreds of students in the Maynard Public Schools and is a testament to the entire community.

Below are some additional items of note and upcoming events:
