This Week at MHS: 1/17/2012

posted Jan 17, 2012, 8:15 AM by Paul Orzech

We are pleased to report that the attendance rate for today is as good, if not better, than a "regular school day" and we thank parents for their cooperation! Your student will thank you at the end of the year when they finish school on the same day as the rest of the district. I know this was difficult for some families, and we thank you again for your assistance with the make-up of our emergency day-off at the beginning of the year.

**** Reminder ***

Mid-term exams begin tomorrow. The first exam for Block 1 will be after lunch. If students do not have a mid-term it is not necessary that they are present at school during the Block 1 exam. Thursday will be exams for Block 2 and 3, Friday for Blocks 4 and 5, and Monday for exams Block 6 and 7.

** Reminder ***

On January 23rd our Chinese exchange students will be arriving. Students who are part of the International Club should check with Ms. Griffin for special events during that week.

*** Reminder ***

School Improvement Council will meet 1/24/12 at 5:30. All parents are invited.

Continuing with Senior Projects in Media Literacy class, this week Bryn Koskinen, presented her research entitled - "Reality TV - Fact or Fiction". Bryn did an outstanding job researching whether reality tv shows are in fact real or fiction. Her 15 page research paper examined the impact that such shows have on society and how this genre elevates the status of bad behavior in many cases. Bryn also presented her research to underclassmen in the course through a lengthy in class presentation - great job Bryn!

That the Guidance Department is currently soliciting applications from Juniors who wish to be 9th grade mentors for next year. These mentors will be attending 9th grade orientation, developing mentoring session lesson plans, and providing mentoring classes to 9th graders during the school year next year.
