Good afternoon--

Thank You to Our Parents & PTO

I'd like to begin this update with a hearty "Thank You" to the High School PTO for their generous and delicious Staff Appreciation Luncheon held today at Maynard High School.  This greatly anticipated, annual event has been led by Jill Hickey for many years and we cannot thank Jill, today's volunteers, the many folks who contributed food, and the entire PTO enough for their kindnesses around this event.

MHS Rocks From Dawn to Dusk

At 6:10pm yesterday night I was walking through the building and saw our auditorium in use as all who helped on this year's musical, Beauty and the Beast, enjoyed the filmed version of their tremendous production.  Down the hall many students, from grades 6 to 12, and staff at WAVM were busy sending out programming to the greater Maynard community.  Down the hall Mr. Waldron was leading his AP History students through review as their exam date approaches.  Out at Alumni Field the Track team was competing even as our parental Boosters ran the snack shack and held their monthly meeting.  Behind the building our varsity Baseball team was in action with a crowd of supporters.  This is Maynard High School--Parents, teachers, staff members, students and friends in areas of interest from communications, to the  arts, to sports, and on to academics all utilizing our tremendous facility for more than 12 hours a day.  Last night at least 400 people benefited from our new building.

Which leads me too...

How is the Building Accessed for Extra-Curricular Activities?

All groups using the facilities after school hours have to complete a very straightforward facilities request form to avoid conflicts such as double booking in various spaces like the auditorium.   School based agencies and community groups, our own teams, the PTO and staff led student groups, use the facilities without charge.  Outside groups may expect to be charged a custodial or rental fee.  Any student group or student activity must be overseen by a staff member or approved adult such as a coach.  No unsupervised students, children or unauthorized adults are allowed in the building after hours.

Teens Got Talent

On May 15th at 7:00pm the Maynard Public Library has a Teens Got Talent open mic talent show on tap hosted by Ms. Mendonca. This event is for children and young adults ages 12 and over.  All acts are welcome and snacks will be served.  Forms can be dropped off at school libraries.

Testing and Evaluation

Yes,  it is that time of year.  Over the next 33 school days, until the end of the school year, 20 days will feature an AP Exam, MCAS Exam, PARCC Test, or Final Exam for an academic class being held.   Our staff has done a spectacular job of coordinating these many dates in a way designed to allow regular operation of MHS for all students each day--whether or not they are in a testing group on a given day.

Prom & Significant Dates for Seniors are Fast Approaching

Four common questions at this time of year are, "When is Prom?", "When are seniors done?", "When are Senior Awards?" and "When is graduation?"

The answers:  Prom is Friday May 9th at 7:00pm at the Sheraton in Framingham.  Seniors last day of school is Friday May 30th.  Senior Awards Night is on June 5th at 7:00pm in the gym.  Graduation is Saturday June 7th at 3:00pm at Alumni Field weather permitting.  The back-up location for graduation is the gymnasium at Maynard High School.

Please refer to our school calendar on our website for many other events that are upon us including the Senior Cruise, Underclassmen Awards, Exam Schedules and the like.

Our last day of school is June 19th and is an Early Release Day for Students with dismissal at 10:55am.

That's the news for now.

Take care--

Chuck Caragianes

Principal of Maynard High School
