We're Off to a Roaring Start in the Classroom and Beyond! Go Tigers!

posted Sep 8, 2017, 12:20 PM by Chuck Caragianes

Good afternoon,

We’ve had an excellent week at Maynard High School with students now firmly in the swing of their classes and our extra curricular activities including clubs and sports teams getting quite active.

This afternoon our students attended class meetings and attended a rally in our gymnasium to celebrate fall sports.  All of our fall sports teams are now in action for the year.  Check out our Athletics website for complete schedules for all of our teams.  Here’s the link:   Many thanks go out to the students and staff who orchestrated these events, our sports captains, to Charlie Neuhauser for singing the National Anthem, and to our band for performing so well.

Please mark your calendars and save the date of September 28th as we hold our annual “Back to School Night” from 6:00 to 8:00pm.  This is an opportunity to become acquainted with your student’s teachers, the academic expectations for the year, and receive information from some of our parent run groups.  Please plan on joining us!

Early in the year our attendance has been outstanding with very high attendance rates and great rates of on time arrivals.  A thank you goes out to the students and their parents and guardians for making it a point to take care of this essential element needed to support student success.

As a reminder, Maynard High School opens for students at 7:00am for breakfast and academic classes begin promptly at 7:45am.  There is no traditional homeroom period.  If your student is walking into the building at 7:45 they will be late for the day and late to class where they will be missing academic work.  A 7:30 arrival all year long will ensure that your student has time to visit their locker, say hi to their friends, get settled for the day ahead and get to class on time.

Related to being on time, please be aware of the following:

When your students arrive each morning all food and beverages must be consumed in the cafeteria and cannot go up to the classrooms.  We have students with quite severe food allergies and introducing food into classrooms greatly increases the possibility of a strong allergic reaction.  So if your student is stopping for coffee and a bagel in the morning, they’ll need to build in time to eat it prior to going to class rather than thinking they’ll be munching or sipping during 1st period class.

As the year unfolds, feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns.

Below are some additional items of note and upcoming events:

A Message Sent From Our Student Council

Our Student council has been working hard and are back to work. At the end of last school year, Student council elected new officers and created new rules for the Maynard High School Student Council Constitution. Some of these new positions include at-large positions and the new public relations director, Nicole Jones. We have new people taking over positions including Alyssa Gwozdz as Secretary, Nick DeCastro as Treasurer. And we have our returning student body president, Kyle Morgan. Our student council came together a few times this summer to attend things such as the Special Olympics and a MASC camp. Some of our student council members who attended the camp include Kyle Morgan, Axum Semakula, Ally Morgan, and Erin Egan. At this camp they learned about topics like leadership and ways to make their student government stronger. The Student Council met a few days before school started to discuss plans for the first day and the upcoming year. They came up with a fun new welcoming activity for the Student Body that everyone seemed to enjoy. They’re all excited and ready to make this year the best one yet!

Fundraiser to Benefit the Katherine K. Lalli Memorial Scholarship Fund

Save the Date for "Music Together in Katherine's Memory", Sunday, September 17th, Battle Road Brewery, 5 Mill and Main, Maynard, 5 - 10 PM. From 5-6 PM, Pat and Vic Lalli,  from "Music Together of Assabet Valley", will entertain the younger audience.  From 6 - 10 PM, various musicians who have played with the Lalli's will entertain the older audience.  Proceeds from the event will benefit the Katherine K.
